Ohio received a major disaster declaration as the result of the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result of this disaster declaration, Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) funds are available statewide. Local communities, eligible private non-profits, and state agencies can apply for HMGP funding for projects that reduce natural hazard risk to people and property. An applicant must have participated in the development of a FEMA approved local hazard mitigation plan to be eligible to apply for HMGP. Examples of HMGP projects in Ohio include: acquiring and demolishing repetitively flooded structures and deed restricting the property as open space, elevating flood-prone structures, constructing residential and community tornado safe rooms, and storm water projects. A complete list of eligible projects and program rules can be found in the HMA Guidance and Addendum documents dated February 27, 2015.
Pre-applications for HMGP funding are due to Ohio EMA March 25, 2022. The State Hazard Mitigation Team will meet to select applicants that will be invited to develop full HMGP applications. Draft full applications will be due to Ohio EMA on May 6, 2022. Please contact Steve Ferryman at (614) 799-3539 or firstname.lastname@example.org if you have questions or need more information.
